A disentegrating soldier’s diary held in the National Library of Ireland (NAI) has led to the startling discovery of an undocumented massacre of First Peoples in Tasmania (Van Diemen’s Land) in 1827. History Professor Pam Sharpe of the University of Tasmania discovered Private Robert McNally’s diary during a visit to the NAI in 2020:
