Australia’s frontier massacres and wars

ABC Radio National, Thursday 6 July 2017 A new map recording hundreds of sites where Aboriginal people were massacred during Australia’s colonisation has renewed debate around how the country’s history of war should be memorialised. The Australian War Memorial stands by the position that it’s not the appropriate institution to commemorate this history. There are growing calls for it to shift this stance. See https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/drive/australias-frontier-massacres-and-wars/8685224 Note: Maps of locations of many hundreds of frontier conflicts that occurred between colonists and First Peoples across the Australian mainland and on Tasmania are included on this Australian Frontier Conflicts website. It’s an ongoing project. You can find these maps under Resources with ever-growing lists of timelines shown Australia-wide and by States and the Northern Territory. Information about any such conflicts is always welcome. You can reach the website author, Jane Morrison, via the online Contact form.
